Today’s operations

  • The Flotta Terminal has been in operation since 1976 significantly contributing to Orkney’s economy and communities for almost 50 years. Operated by Repsol Resources UK since 2000.
  • Crude enters the Terminal via a single 109 mile long 30” diameter pipeline.
  • Current storage capacity - 1.5mbbls (3 tanks).
  • Average throughput - 30,000 mstb/d (with new production adding developments under consideration).

Flotta Hydrogen Hub

  • Strategically advantageous COMAH site available on the island of Flotta in Orkney, within an existing Flotta Oil Terminal operated by Repsol Resources UK, able to benefit from the existing skilled workforce. It has access to Europe’s deepest natural harbour, providing possible export opportunities for hydrogen, or its derivatives.
  • The Flotta Hydrogen Hub project, powered by renewable energy, sourced from the National Grid, has the potential to establish up to 1.5GW of electrolyser capacity producing over 200,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually.
  • The technical concept is well developed, however, before committing to more detailed engineering work the FFH partners require greater certainty over power import arrangements, hydrogen infrastructure, potential offtake markets and the associated price expectations than is available in the current market. The partners continue to monitor the evolution of the hydrogen business environment, with a view to progressing the project technical scope when conditions allow.

Flotta Ultra Deep Water Quay

  • RRUK owns the Golta Peninsula (171Ha of land) that would allow development of Ultra Deep-Water Quay project (Decommissioning / Offshore Wind Construction / Supply Chain Support). It lies on the shores of Scapa Flow, natural harbour which depths reach up to 46m.
  • A 600m long quayside, with a minimum 15m berth dredge, potentially increasing to 20m is possible. The minimum 32.1ha site has the potential to offer flexible space for the deployment and support of offshore wind activities.
