Stewardship Expectation 11: Net Zero

This Stewardship Expectation sets out the Authority’s view as to how Industry should manage existing operations and new developments in order to reduce their GHG emissions and support delivery of the UK’s net zero target.

Energy integration

NSTA analysis shows the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) can make a major contribution to net zero. Oil and gas infrastructure and capabilities can be leveraged for CCS, offshore wind deployment, and hydrogen transport and storage.

Carbon capture and storage

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is critical to the UK achieving net zero – government aims to capture and store 20-30 million tonnes of CO2 per year by 2030 and over 50 million tonnes/yr by 2035.

The move to net zero carbon

The NSTA is committed to helping the UK government reaching its goal of net zero emissions by 2050 and we have refreshed our core Strategy to integrate net zero and develop benchmarking to monitor emissions performance.
