Flaring and venting

The NSTA is the regulator for flaring and venting under the Energy Act 1976 (as amended by the Energy Act 2016) and the Petroleum Act 1998

Supply Chain Action Plans

The North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) introduced new measures in 2018 to ensure operators work appropriately with the supply chain and derive maximum value from project activity.

Charging regime and fees

The NSTA charges fees for a range of services to specific licence holders, including consents issued under petroleum licences, offshore methane gas and carbon dioxide storage licences and for pipeline works authorisations issued under Part III of the Petroleum Act 1998.

What we do - Licensing and consents

The UK’s offshore and onshore energy resources are being developed by a wide range of companies spanning different sectors. These rich and abundant resources continue to attract new companies and investors from within the UK and overseas.

Our relationship with the UK Government

The NSTA has day-to-day operational independence from the The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ - previously known as the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS)) and undertakes its activities in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations
