The Tree and Wellhead Information for Subsea Tooling (TWIST) pilot project was launched in November 2024 to support cost-effective decommissioning by shining a light on subsea well infrastructure in the UKCS.
Operators bp, CNR International, Harbour Energy and TAQA provided the data for the pilot version of TWIST, which was developed by the NSTA, with input from the Well Decommissioning Steering Group (WDSG), part of the Wells Task Force.
Benefits of TWIST include:
• Accessible information on subsea trees and wellheads,
• Retention and maintenance of existing tooling if it is known to be required in future,
• Creates an opportunity to campaign based on available tooling,
• Could avoid data becoming lost or inaccessible,
• Collates industry knowledge for the next generation of decommissioning specialists.
The NSTA intends to add more operators’ subsea well and Christmas tree data to TWIST over the next year and publish a detailed inventory of available tools as part of a second development phase, aiming to deliver further efficiencies.
