• Speeches will lay out a bright future for the North Sea

  • Important roles for hydrogen and data sharing emphasised

  • Fulfilling careers are available in offshore energies

The North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) has embraced this this year’s All-Energy Conference with a series of contributions from expert employees.

The Conference, in Glasgow in 14 and 15 May, brings together senior leaders from across offshore energies to discuss how they can help to engineer a net zero future.

Andy Brooks, NSTA Director of New Ventures, will be speaking in a panel session chaired by NSTA Head of Scenario Planning, Helen Joiner, entitled Solving the Offshore Rubik’s Cube: Maximising the potential of the offshore energy sector on 14 May.

The panel will also feature Tim Stiven, Director of Linear Assets and New Energies, The Crown Estate; Martyn Tulloch, Director of Energy Transition NZTC; and Mark Richardson, Scottish Renewables Head of Offshore Wind.

The session looks at the challenges and opportunities created as the North Sea becomes increasingly busy with new technologies as the UK moves to net zero.

The speakers will look at the opportunities to integrate different technologies and regulatory approaches to deliver an overall better system.

Andy Brooks said:

“All-Energy is one of the most important events of the year and an excellent opportunity to take the pulse of the industry, share best practice and hear about opportunities and challenges.”

The following day Carlo Procaccini, NSTA Head of Technology, will be part of an expert panel debating the topic: Offshore Wind 5: Harnessing Ocean Renewable Energy 2: Technology Solutions for a Resilient Green Hydrogen Local Supply Chain.

The session, led by Strathclyde University, will open with a discussion of the Ocean REFuel research and development programme that is studying hydrogen production from offshore wind, its transportation/storage and use. Panelists will then look at opportunities created by technology in light of the economic landscape.

Carlo will also take part in the show-floor programme leading a session titled The opportunity for hydrogen in the UK’s energy transition on Wednesday.

He will outline the NSTA’s work in identifying opportunities within the renewable, hydrocarbon, energy transportation and storage industries, both offshore and onshore, and highlight the need for cross-industry collaboration to make hydrogen in the UK a success.

The following day Zahir Ibrahim, Senior Business Intelligence Manager, will discuss how the NSTA has made over a petabyte of data available to accelerate the energy transition and talk about adding value through the use of data and how our maps and dashboards support decision-makers.

And on the same day Asset Stewardship Lead, Zoë Sayer, will talk about her varied career taking in stints as a sedimentologist, consultant, oil and gas development geologist and classroom teacher in a session looking at how geoscientists can follow their desired career paths.
