• Digital Strategy Group workshop will highlight opportunities

  • Free data portals can help ignite the energy transition

  • Expert speakers leading the conversation

The Offshore Energies Digital Strategy Group (DSG) is hosting a workshop highlighting the value of free data portals and signposting industry professionals and academic users to where they can be found.

A wide range of data is currently shared quickly and easily by a range of government organisations through data portals – which are areas of websites where data can be downloaded or connected to free of charge.

An enormous range of information is as available including energy leases, seabed surveys, well data, reservoir details and more – all of which can be used for a variety of uses including determining potential carbon storage and offshore wind locations.

The workshop is intended to raise awareness of the availability of data portals, the information they contain and how they can be accessed.

Nic Granger, NSTA, Director of Corporate, said:

“The potential of the North Sea is limitless and it can play a vital role in the energy transition through oil and gas, offshore wind, carbon storage, tidal and hydrogen.

“Innovative use of data is absolutely vital in that ambition and the greater sharing of information through data portals will make information more widely available and facilitate better decision-making.

Speakers from organisations including The Crown Estate, UKHO and MEDIN have already been confirmed for the event which is scheduled for 27 February 2025 in London.
