Brief overview of role

We have an exciting summer intern opportunity for a talented individual looking to gain an insight into the NSTA and whose actions will help drive the energy transition.

The internship will provide the opportunity for the successful candidate to work alongside an experienced multi-disciplined Area Team to review a portfolio of capital projects that gained consent from the NSTA from 2015 to 2024. 

The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to use their data gathering and problems solving skills to identify, document and present key insights to senior leaders. You will gain an insight into regulator operations and the energy transition. This internship will assist in developing your professional network and build professional relationships across the NSTA. You will be coached and mentored by a variety of senior professionals, developing transferable skills in communication, problem-solving, and teamwork.

You will receive coaching and mentoring to enable you to deliver the project however you will be empowered and responsible for your own delivery of this project. You will present your key insights to senior level leaders in the NSTA and prepare a presentation in an aggregated and anonymised manner for use at public events.

Detailed job description and key responsibilities

Reporting to the Northern North Sea and West of Shetland Area Manager, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Keep a project tracker with progress to date for weekly updates to the Area Manager.
  • Reviewing and benchmarking recently issued consents.
  • Undertake data analysis from various sources, convert into a format suitable to prepare key insights to enable the creation of reports and presentations.
  • Develop two presentations, one for internal use within the NSTA and one aggregated and anonymised for external presentations.
  • Present results to senior level leaders within the NSTA.
  • Attend team meetings and participate in any learning opportunities.
  • Contribute to a team environment and learn from experienced professionals.

  • Ability to source data from different sources with good attention to detail.
  • Good software knowledge, particularly with Microsoft Applications (e.g. PowerPoint, Word & Excel)
  • Good presentation skills and ability to bring forward different ways to present a common dataset.
  • Ability to self-start and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Effectively engage with stakeholders across all levels of the organisation both verbal and written.
  • An ability to adapt to the changing world of work, embracing new technology and agile ways of working.
